Rat Pax (kitbash)

Built by:
Paul Burke in Cotati, California

When this contest was announced, I set out to figure out what the hell to build. The backwards Silhouette trailer thing had been on my mind for a while, and after seeing the one built back in 60s, I decided to go in that direction.

I began by taking 2 trailer top halves and gluing them together. That was my base. After that though, I had no Idea where to go. With 2 Silhouette kits open, I had plenty of parts to work with.

I took the cowl and bubble section from the top half of the car and mated it to the base. I then took the rear portion and fit that to the front. When I looked at it, I saw the Rotar similarities and a little bit of George Barris' X Pack, thus The Rat Pax was born.

Next I took the front-bottom section of the Amtronic, and that became the rear portion of the car. The fenders came from the Silhouette kit. I originally planned on this being a three wheeled air car, but those fenders got the best of me.

This thing really built itself. I mudded it up, sanded and primed it, then painted it Lime Gold Metal Flake over White Pearl. I made the bubble hinge from brass wire and the upholstery was basically stock with a few modifications.

I added the nerf bars and bam, It was done. This car is a curbside slammer and took me 10 days to build. Like I said, it pretty much built itself. I myself, just kicked back and drank a few beers and watched it all come together.
