I had never driven through the mountains before, so Larry pointed these
out to me back in California. For those of you who do not know what these
are, let's just say gravity works. And if brakes fail on a semi coming
down the mountain, you must have a place to land safely. The
landing pad goes uphill, and in soft ground/gravel.
To the left: I checked my brakes so I won't need this.
