My daughters are 10 and 12. There was a Navajo woman selling handmade jewelry at this rest stop (from previous page). It was really nice stuff.

To the left: The "Tiger's Eye" necklace on the left is for Dana, and the "Dreamcatcher" necklace on the right is for Erica.

73 facts about the GTO
The September 1980 issue of Hi-Performance Cars Magazine touted the forthcoming 1983 GTO on its cover. HUH???? Wait a damn minute there never was a 1983 GTO!!! But Hi-Performance Cars magazine thought there would be. Their sources told them so. As reported from that issue:

"Needless to say, Pontiac didn't invite Cars Magazine down to their design studios to photograph the new GTO, nor did they put an army of engineers at corporate honchos at our disposal to give us thorough briefing and answer all questions. That sort of treatment is reserved for the likes of Car and Driver, and we had to obtain our information by sneaky tactics. Nevertheless, every word of it has been confirmed by reliable sources inside Pontiac."

  • This new GTO was supposed to:
  • Have a fiberglass body
  • 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, optional turbocharged V6@ 160 HP
  • two-seater mid-engine design
  • rear wheel drive 2300 lbs
  • fastback and notchback body styles

Obliviously, it never happened. And thank goodness because any GTO fan would have puked over the design. It's the ugliest thing you've ever seen. If you have a strong stomach, click here to see the ugly GTO that (thankfully) never was
