The Trim Ring Problem
<---- 34 ---->

supersize this pic

A "trim ring" is a chrome-plated ring that clamps onto the raised edge of the steel wheel. It hides the rough edge of the wheel and the small weights which balance the wheel. They really dress up the appearance of the tire/wheel assembly.

But you MUST have the correct trim rings for your wheels. I was about to take off when I looked down and saw one of them was loose. No problem--I'll just pop in back in. HOLY SMOKES LOOK AT WHAT IT DID TO MY TIRE!

I went around to the other tires and noticed it was loose on the other front tire. The rear tires were fine. Drove to a service station. The guy and I tried to get them to fit. Quite simply, they don't. Even the back ones are slightly misshapen as they were jammed on by a baby gorilla. We popped off the front ones. Eventually, I took all of them off. Later, I found the correct ones from the Ames Engineering web site. They are $65 each. *groan* No wonder they tried to make these fit.

To the left: These holes are about 1/4" into the sidewall. Danger Will Robinson!

73 facts about the GTO
Muscle cars look pedestrian without mags or cool wheels. The most popular wheel option in the history of the GTO was the "Rally II" wheel. Five spokes with the same number of slots combined with the center cap "PMD" logo to complete the look of a GTO. Introduced in 1967, the Rally II wheels were an $84 option and were available until the end of the GTOs life in 1974. View the classy Rally II
