We're All a Bunch of Wimps

supersize this pic

There are many things to see other than cars in the National Automobile Museum: old photos on the walls (like the one to the left), simulated full-size gas stations and tons of other "Automobilia." If you're into cars, you must have a sense of history. Obviously, that's the main theme of my Show Rod Rally, and my current madness--the 73 GTO. Therefore, I pay special attention to historical perspectives and have come to a single conclusion: We're all a bunch of wimps--compared to those who have gone before us with their incredible trials and tribulations.

To the left: My grandpa Frank worked in a Milwaukee factory his whole life. No hearing protection back then....HUH....WHAT?? Think the guys in this picture could complain about having "carpal tunnel syndrome"?? Fat chance! "Speed up the line!!!"

73 facts about the GTO
On January 4, 1999 Pontiac introduced a "Concept" GTO at the Detroit Auto Show. It was not a running prototype, but merely a foam model without an interior. Borrowing from the past while still retaining modern styling, this modern "Goat" had a hood tach, twin front hood scoops, the split grille, honeycomb wheels, and even a version of the "Carousel Red" paint reminiscent of the 1969 Judge.
